Debate: Documenting the city

18 March / 13:00 / UNATC, Screening Room / no. 75-77 Matei Voievod Street

Could a city`s evolution be understood in the absence of testimonial pictures? Fifty years from now will we be able to judge how deep did the changes in the urban planning which we witness today influenced the lives of the inhabitants of a city?

Kiev is one big fish for the real estate mafia and it is home to a case where traditional household is still present in the middle of modern high rise buildings. „Pit Hole” is a documentary which deals with the fight of the traditional enclave inhabitants.

Following the film`s screening anthropologist and „Platforma pentru Bucuresti” activist, Alec Balasescu, ActiveWatch activist for the preservation of Bucharest`s urban identity, Irina Zamfirescu, and the architect and „Platforma pentru Bucuresti” activist Teodor Frolu will join the public in a debate regarding how can Bucharest be caught in pictures that can document its history before its urban identity vanishes and how can future film makers take an active part in saving the city`s memories.

Organized together with ActiveWatch and the support of the National University of theater and cinema Art.
