Debate: Television, power and the people

19 March / 14:00 / Arca Theater, Club La Scena

Will we still enjoy watching TV if we found out  that behind some shows political interests are involved? Are we able to remain critical of the messages we receive via mass-media?

Erik Gandini`s „Videocracy” treats the phenomenon of Italian televisions controlled by PM Silvio Berlusconi for thirty years now. The Italian audience is subject to an unique media experiment which consists in a mix of politics and entertainment that holds very high rating scores. The documentary was not allowed to be screened in Italy.

Following the film`s screening Erik Gandini (the director of „Videocracy”), Matthew Torne (producer of Enemies of the People/Frontline) and Human Rights activist (ActiveWatch) Mircea Toma will join the public in a debate on how we can develop a critical view towards the messages received from the mass media in a country where the so-called media moguls are being accused of controlling television.

Organized together with ActiveWatch and with the support of Arca theater (La Scena club La Scena)
