Victor Klemperer (1881-1960), a literature professor in Dresda, was a Jew who, with the help of his wife, managed to survive the cruel war. Since Hitler came to power in 1933 and to the end of the war, in 1945, Klemperer wrote a survival journal in which he chronicled details of everyday life, while also examining the meaning of the words from the spoken German language that was promoted by the third Reich.

The film follows this linguistic and sociological approach illustrated with images from Klemperer’s personal archive and shootings of leaders and simple citizens of the time
